Last Meals 2016

I find what someone chooses to eat for their last meal fascinating. Apparently, I'm not the only one.

Researchers at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY studied the last meal choices of 247 prisoners between 2002 and 2006 and found that those who continually protest their innocence are 2.7 times more likely to decline a last meal than those who admit their crime.

They also found that those who accepted guilty, either by apologizing or confessing, were likely to request brand name or comfort foods and also asked for 34% more calories of food.

Kevin Kniffin of Cornell University:
Our content analyses reveal three key findings: [Firstly], the average last meal is calorically rich (2756 calories) and proportionally averages 2.5 times the daily recommended servings of protein and fat.
[Secondly], the most frequent requests are also calorie dense: meat (83.9 per cent), fried food (67.9 per cent), desserts (66.3 per cent), and soft drinks (60 per cent), and [thirdly] 39.9% requested branded foods or beverages.
Here's some other interesting information from The Daily Mail on last meals:

A friend of mine (in having a casual conversation about supernatural creatures) gave me a great idea for a story that I'm working on, which may be my project for this year's NaNoWriMo competition.

I don't want to discuss it TOO much until I get everything on paper, but here's a little summary: Young woman becomes a vampire, ends up working as a butcher with ghouls as her assistants. Hilarity ensues.

I'm sure most people are probably sick of hearing about it, but I absolutely LOVED watching the big royal wedding this morning. My mom watched Charles & Diana's wedding 30 years ago.

First off, the dress was AMAZING! It's the same style dress I want for my wedding someday, but without the train.

One of the sweetest parts of the whole day was the most anticipated - the big kiss on the balcony. And they kissed not once but twice, much to the crowd's delight!

If you pay close attention (and watch a few times) starting at 2:10, you can see William saying to Catherine, "Did you like that kiss? Kate? A bit more...a little bit more maybe...c'mon..." and then they kiss. It's almost playful, like he's a child coaxing her, but it's all very sweet. And then after they kiss, he's beaming and says, "That's it! One more, just one more! C'mon! How about it?" and she gives him a gentle nudge in the ribs and then places her hand on his back. So sweet!

Someone posted this video in an LJ community. Personally, I think it's an interesting concept but I don't think I'd do it myself.

The idea is to give the baker some notice from your doctor stating what the gender of your child is going to be and the inside of the cake is either pink or blue. When you cut into it, you'll know what your baby's gender will be. Example:

There are lots of videos for "gender reveal parties" on YouTube. Watching them puts this nightmare scenario in my head - what if the child is born and they discover the child is a hermaphrodite? What if you're having twins or triplets or more - that's gonna be a pretty big cake order!

It's things like this that make me miss Phil Hartman:

Here’s a chance for a little interactivity for all the bloggers out there. Below is a list of 100 things that I think every good omnivore should have tried at least once in their life. The list includes fine food, strange food, everyday food and even some pretty bad food – but a good omnivore should really try it all. Don’t worry if you haven’t, mind you; neither have I, though I’ll be sure to work on it. Don’t worry if you don’t recognise everything in the hundred, either; Wikipedia has the answers.

Here’s what I want you to do:

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.

List below the cut )

Planned Parenthood disclosed that last year, their 800+ locations performed 300,000 abortions. That's over 1/4 million lives lost.

I wonder how many of those children were aborted out of medical necessity or because of rape or how many could have been saved and put up for adoption.

My first entry on DW...and I really have no idea what to say.

I picked up an account here because LJ is having so many DDOS attacks, people are nervous they're going to lose their accounts. I'm considering importing my material from LJ over here. It's going to be a definite thing if the DDOS attacks become TOO severe, but by then I hope it's not too late.
